17 nursing qualification graduates celebrate successful completion in Amberg

Amberg. The need for nursing staff is growing rapidly - also in the Amberg-Sulzbach area. In Germany alone there are currently over five million people who are in need of care. This results in bottlenecks in supply and a high need for qualified personnel. People in need of care in the Amberg area have to be prepared for sometimes long waiting times - both in inpatient and outpatient care. Qualified nursing staff are therefore urgently needed.

A successful contribution to solving this problem comes from Amberg: On September 17, 2024, the thirteenth nursing qualification started at the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center in cooperation with the Amberg-Sulzbach job center, the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs and the Bavarian Family and Social Center (ZBFS). After nine intensive months, a total of 17 graduates were able to receive their “Qualification as Nursing Assistant” certificates on June 13, 2025.

Particularly pleasing: Nine participants from Ukraine will begin training as nursing specialists at the ISE Nursing School Amberg in the fall or will start directly into employment subject to social insurance contributions, for example in the St. Anna Hospital in Sulzbach-Rosenberg or in retirement homes in the region. Participants from Germany, Iraq and Azerbaijan were also able to gain training positions in the nursing sector through the measure.

The course, the total eligible costs of which are funded with up to 50 percent from funds from the European funding program European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and additionally with state funds of up to 20 percent, enables long-term unemployed recipients of citizens' benefit to acquire sound theoretical and practical knowledge in nursing and to enter employment subject to social insurance contributions or training to become a nursing assistant or nursing specialist. In addition to basic medical knowledge, communication and legal basics, the focus was on application training, soft skills training and a four-week internship. The aim was to comprehensively prepare the participants for entry into the nursing profession - professionally and linguistically as well as personally.

“This group was exceptionally committed and willing to learn,” praised Eva Weber, Managing Director of ISE. Course leader Thomas Klein and Rainer Liermann, department head and team leader of the Amberg-Sulzbach job center, also emphasized in their closing speeches the high level of motivation, the willingness to further improve German language skills and the mutual support within the class. The participants' interest in the nursing profession, the always good class atmosphere and the empathy of the qualification participants were also praiseworthy. All course participants came to the course from different areas and professions. “It is never too late to learn something new in life,” emphasized Liermann. Peter Blendowski, educational consultant at ISE, praised the excellent advisory work of the Amberg-Sulzbach job center in selecting suitable course participants. Getting people with professional backgrounds such as sales, cosmetics or offices to work in nursing often requires intensive and time-consuming persuasion on the part of the job center and the training provider.

The measure was made possible through financial support from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), the Free State of Bavaria and the Amberg-Sulzbach job center. The long-standing and trusting cooperation of everyone involved was a crucial success factor. Particularly noteworthy is the committed support of the Amberg-Sulzbach job center in placing citizens' benefit recipients as well as the comprehensive support during the qualification measure, which made a decisive contribution to the success of professional integration.

The nursing qualification at the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center shows how sustainable integration can work - with individual support, practical qualifications and real career prospects.
