Opportunities for unemployed people interested in the care sector

With the ESF-funded project qualification to become a nursing assistant for the long-term unemployed, the ISE language and vocational training center, in cooperation with the job center AM-AS, specifically supports unemployed employees in improving their professional opportunities on the Bavarian labor market.

Amberg, September 17, 2013. “By qualifying as a nursing assistant, we give unemployed employees the opportunity to continue their training and work on their professional qualifications. In this way, women and men can secure a permanent place in the world of work in the long term,” says Peter Blendowski, project manager of this qualification measure and managing director of the ISE language and vocational training center. With the start of the project on July 1st, 2013, the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center called on interested participants to be actively involved in qualifying as nursing assistants - the project runs until March 31st, 2014.

There are currently 23 participants qualifying, with the majority of women at 16. Interested people aged 23 to 58 came together in the course to prepare themselves for the job market in the nursing sector. Five participants have a migration background.

The first successes are already evident:

After the four-week orientation phase with the topics of skills training, application training and IT entry, the participants were able to acquire some important key qualifications. The participants are now completing the first qualification module according to the BAVBVO (vocational training preparation certificate regulation). During this module, the participants undergo a 5-day orientation internship to become a care worker in nursing homes (according to Section 87b SGBXI) with the aim of acquiring the care certificate as part of the measure.

Participation in the training to become a nursing assistant is generally free of charge. The project is supported by the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center and the AM-AS job center and is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF). Important foundation for the labor market

The Bavarian Ministry of Labor is doing everything it can to keep the unemployment rate in Bavaria low and to actively counter the impending shortage of skilled workers. This is where the ESF comes into play. For over 50 years, as a so-called structural fund, it has ensured that the employment and work opportunities of people in Europe are improved. This makes the ESF the most important funding instrument of the European Union (EU) in the area of labor market policy. Initiatives and projects are supported that improve the qualifications of long-term unemployed people and employees and create additional training positions. The ESF also supports projects that increase equal opportunities, strengthen social inclusion and promote entrepreneurship while expanding cross-border employment. From 2007 to 2013, Bavaria invested around 630 million euros in sustainable qualification and labor market projects. Half of this, around 310 million euros, is co-financed by the ESF.
