It is possible: take life in new directions - the ESF course shows success

Course leader Thomas Klein (in the middle, 2nd row) is happy with the other ISE lecturers and the participants about the success of this qualification.

With the qualification to become a nursing assistant for geriatric care, the fourth ESF project at the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center Amberg has now successfully ended in close cooperation with the AM-AS job center, which was financed, among other things, by the European Social Fund (ESF).

The course included 1,147 hours of theory and 148 hours of internships in a residential seniors' facility and is the basis for the training of geriatric nurses. Almost all participants received a certificate of completion proving successful participation. A total of 13 participants were able to take up an internship position with the support of the ISE Language and Vocational Training Center. Unfortunately, two participants had to stop the measure due to illness. It is very pleasing that three participants were offered employment by their internship location.

The course included three qualification modules: Module 1 “Promoting and supporting old people in their mobility as part of self-care” Module 2 “Supporting old people in organizing their day” and Module 3 “Supporting old people in eating and drinking”. After each module, participants were issued with a certificate and a certificate of participation. At the end of the course - after successful participation in all three modules - the participants received a qualified certificate.

The course content was based on the recognized training profession of geriatric nurse. The participants received a comprehensive insight into the work of geriatric nurses. In theory, for example, age-typical clinical pictures were shown to them, and topics such as the structure and organization of a senior citizens' facility, food and fluid intake, areas of anatomy, basics of law and support for the daily routine of seniors were taught theoretically and practically. In the practical part of the qualification, the participants gained extensive knowledge about basic care, positioning and other prophylactic measures to promote resources for older people.

It should not be forgotten that the participants were able to take and refresh the first aid course. Comprehensive infection protection instructions were also part of the measure. Several excursions, e.g. a visit to the Amberg dialysis center, a visit to the city museum and an exhibition as part of the Amberg Dementia Weeks or a visit to the outpatient intensive care facility in Amberg, provided variety and rounded off the extensive qualification program. In a four-week internship in a senior citizens' facility at the end of the course, the participants had the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they had acquired.

Many participants will significantly improve their chances on the job market through this measure. The ISE Language and Vocational Training Center wishes all graduates all the best professionally and personally.
