ESF nursing qualification measure: New opportunities for a career in geriatric care

From December 6th, 2022 to August 31st, 2023, the eleventh round of the ESF nursing qualification measure took place at the ISE language and vocational training center in Amberg.

This care qualification measure is funded with 50% from the European Social Fund + 20% from state funds of the Free State of Bavaria, with the remaining funds provided by the Jobcenter (JC) Amberg and the educational institution. The aim of this measure is to facilitate reintegration into the job market, with a focus on the field of inpatient and outpatient elderly care. Due to demographic changes, including in the region of Amberg and Amberg-Sulzbach, there has been a significant demand for qualified nursing staff for years.

With this successful completion, with a certificate according to BAVBVO, the participants have a very good opportunity to take up work in this profession that is subject to social insurance contributions or to receive a solid basis for training as a nursing assistant or nursing specialist after examining additional criteria.

Mr. Rainer Liermann (team leader at JC Amberg) and his colleague Ms. Ute Hansmann (program supervisor at JC Amberg) welcomed these very good career prospects in their closing speech to the eight graduates of this measure. Both also emphasized perseverance and learning, for example, specialist terms or practical applications for the very varied work in geriatric care.

Course leader Mr. Thomas Klein emphasized the participants' willingness to work in geriatric care. He pointed out that the need for geriatric nurses in Germany is still very high, given that there are currently 4.2 million people in need of care and a continuously increasing trend. In order for this willingness to be maintained over this nine-month period, good class cohesion, teamwork and ambition are required on the part of the participants, as Ms. Eva Weber (Managing Director of ISE) mentioned. These skills led to the successful completion of this measure, so that three participants began the one-year training as a nursing assistant on September 1st, 2023, one participant received the three-year training as a nursing assistant and one participant received a full-time position in an Amberg retirement home.

For the twelfth measure, starting on October 16, 2023, preparations have already begun in collaboration with the JC Amberg. At the same time, the second measure has been running in Weiden since June 2023 in cooperation with the JC Weiden/Neustadt.
