ISE employment agency on the external form of application documents

The ISE employment agents deal with applicants and their application documents every day. The application documents are often inadequate and contain mistakes that simply shouldn't happen. “The impact of these errors is often serious. The ISE employment agents are in close contact with employers and often receive first-hand information. A personnel decision maker or employer gets their first impression of a potential employee from the application documents.

Pleasantly attracting attention is the goal

When applying, make sure that you do not attract unpleasant attention simply because of the visual appearance of your application. If the external form of the application is unappealing or even sloppy, hardly any personnel decision-maker will take the time to seriously consider your application. The list of mistakes that are made with regard to the presentation of application documents is very long. In addition to the large number of errors, the frequency with which they occur is also astonishing.

Do not fold application documents

The goal is to be pleasantly noticed, and you can achieve this by paying attention to at least all of the following points. At least, because this list is far from exhaustive!

  1. Use good quality material.
  2. Under no circumstances should you put your application documents together in a loose-leaf binder.
  3. Make sure that your application does not have any stains, creases and/or dog ears.
  4. You should avoid bad photocopies.
  5. Don't use checkered or cheap paper that looks like greaseproof paper.
  6. Bad printouts – for example due to too little printer ink/toner – should be replaced.
  7. Discard materials that have obviously been used repeatedly.
  8. Although double-sided copies and documents save postage, they have a negative impact on the outcome of your application.
  9. Do not send loose and unsorted leaf collections.
  10. When applying by post, ensure there is sufficient postage on the envelope
  11. Be sure to avoid incorrect or incomplete company addresses, TippEx addresses or deletions/corrections on the envelope.
  12. By the way, application documents should be placed in a C4 envelope and not collapsed into a DIN-long envelope.
